The Hungarian National Assembly has always been committed to developing the parliamentary dimension of the Visegrád Cooperation established in 1991. Parliamentary relations have been regular since the 1998 meeting of the chairmen of Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the Visegrád Group countries, and consultations between the Speakers of Parliaments have been common since the 2003 Budapest meeting of the Speakers.

Speaker-level meetings

On 27-28 June 2019, the closing event of the parliamentary dimension of the Slovak Presidency of the Visegrád Group was held in Poprad in the form of an informal meeting of the Speakers of the Parliaments of the V4 countries.

 

Invited by the National Council of Slovakia which country holds the one-year presidency of the Visegrád countries, the meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments of the Visegrád countries and the Benelux countries was held in Piešťany on 24 and 25 March 2019, at which the Hungarian National Assembly was represented by its Speaker, László Kövér.

The National Council of Slovakia, which country holds the one-year presidency of the Visegrád countries, hosted the informal meeting of the Speakers of the Visegrád Group (V4) Parliaments in Bratislava on 15 November 2018, to which the Speakers of the French and the German Parliaments were also invited. During the Slovak Presidency, this was the second high-level meeting after the meeting held on 12 and 13 October in Košice within the framework of parliamentary cooperation.

Committee-level meetings

The European Affairs Committees of the parliaments of the Visegrad Countries held a meeting in Prague on 7–9 October 2018 at the invitation of Václav Hampl, Chairman of the Committee on EU Affairs of the Senate of the Czech Republic.

The Slovak Parliament, which holds the Presidency of the parliamentary cooperation of the Visegrád countries (V4) between July 2018 and June 2019, organised a joint committee meeting in Bratislava on 22 and 23 January 2019 for the Defence Committees of the Parliaments of the V4 countries.

On 25 and 26 February 2019, the Slovak National Council organised the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committees of the V4 Parliaments under the Slovak V4 Presidency.
